If you are a Cerro Coso student, alum, faculty member, staff member, high school student from the college's service area, or invited guest artist/writer who would like to submit to Met, please read the following information and follow the instructions below.

What We Publish

General Submissions: Met publishes poetry, short shorts (up to 1200 words), creative non-fiction, reviews, literary scholarship, and art of all mediums. Submissions are taken year round. All submissions must be previously unpublished.

Met Awards Submissions: Met holds yearly awards for flash fiction and poetry. See the Awards page for more information.

Who is eligible for Met Awards consideration:
  • Current Cerro Coso students
  • High school students from the college's service area (Mammoth, Bishop, Ridgecrest, California City, Kern Valley, Tehachapi)  

Submission Process Step By Step 

Follow these three steps carefully to ensure that your work gets routed correctly. These steps must be repeated for each piece you submit.

Step 1: Save Your Work 

Formatting Literature: In the upper left corner of  your first page, list the following information in order:
  1. Full name:
  2. Byline (how you would like your name to appear if published)
  3. Tel:
  4. Email:
  5. School: (Cerro Coso or name of local high school):
  6. Category (fiction, poetry, or creative non-fiction):
Save your literary piece in Microsoft Word or RTF format using the following conventions: Genre-Level-Lastname-Shortenedtitle (with hyphens in between).

Examples: Poem-College-Jones-Valley-of-Life, Fiction-High-School-Jones-Trail-to-Sinai, Non-Fiction-College-Yates-Coffee-for-Two.

Formatting Art: Save your piece as a high resolution 300 dpi jpeg or tiff file. Image dimensions should not exceed 8"x 10" in size. If you must photograph your piece (for instance, a painting or sculpture), consider carefully the composition and lighting of the shot.

Be sure to name the file using the following conventions: Genre-Level-Lastname-Shortenedtitle (with hyphens in between).

Step 2: Fill Out the Submission Form and Send

The Submission Form collects all necessary personal information and your permission to publish, so fill it out as completely as possible. Toward the bottom, you will see the necessary "Browse" and "Upload" buttons you will use to attach your piece. Be sure to click "Upload" once finding your piece through browsing, or your submission will not attach.
